Written Examination :

Exam Pattern :- Scheme of HP Police Constable written test is as follows :

► The written test will be multiple choice objective type.
► There will be a composite paper of 80 marks.
► The duration of test will be 01:00 hour (60 minutes).
► The written exam will be of 10+2 standard except Mathematics for which standard shall be Matriculation.

Minimum qualifying marks:

  • For SC/ST candidates = 40%
  • For all other categories = 50%
  • This process will be video graphed.
    • The result of the written examination shall be put up online and also displayed on the Notice Board of the concerned District S.P. Office displaying marks secured by all the candidates (out of a maximum of 80 marks) who appeared in the written examination).

Syllabus :-

HP Police Constable Syllabus is given below :

Hindi & English Languages : Candidates’ ability to understand correct language, his basic comprehension and writing ability, etc. would be tested. Questions will be asked from error recognition, fill in the blanks (using verbs, preposition, articles etc), Vocabulary, Spellings, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence Completion, Phrases and Idiomatic use of Words, etc.

General Awareness : History, Geography and Socio Economic development of Himachal Pradesh and India. Knowledge of current events of National and International importance and such matters of every day observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. Paper will also include questions on Modern History of India, Indian culture, Indian Polity, Indian Economy, Geography of India.

Mathematics & Science : The test of Arithmetical and Numerical abilities will cover Number Systems including questions on Simplification, Decimals, Fractions, L.C.M., H.C.F., Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Average, Profit & Loss, Discount, Simple & Compound Interest, Mensuration, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Tables & Graphs, etc. There will also be questions on Biology, species, Laws of Physics and Chemistry, Chemical properties.

Reasoning Aptitude : It will include the question of both verbal and non-verbal type. Question will be asked from analogies, similarities and and differences, problem solving, relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions, Venn diagrams, relationship concepts and Ability to observe and distinguish patterns etc.

Scrutiny of documents and award of marks for certificates (15 Marks) :

It Will be in two parts:

  •  Scrutiny of all documents related to eligibility for the post of Constables. The burden of producing documents determining the eligibility of the candidates shall rest on the applicant. The absence of any certificate which entitles the candidate to be considered as special class/ category, shall make the candidate ineligible for such consideration.
  • Evaluation with respect to 15 marks, on account of special certificates earned by the candidates, shall be carried out as per the following criteria as elaborated in Reference -iii

(i)  Weightage for the minimum educational qualification as per the provision of sub- rules (1) and (2) of rule 8 {percentage of marks obtained in the educational qualification would be multiplied by 0.025. For example, (a) If the candidate has secured 50% marks in the required educational qualifications, he/she will be allowed 1.25 marks (50 x 0.025= 1.25) (b) If the candidate has secured 60% marks in the required educational qualifications, he/she will be allowed 1.50 marks (60 x 0.025= 1.50) (c) And so on. 2.5 (Two & a half)
 (ii) Belonging to notified Backward Area or Panchayat, as the case may be. To be notified by the competent authority 1 (One)
(iii) Landless family/ family having land less than 1 Hectare. To be certified by the concerned Revenue Authority. 1(One)
(iv) NSS (at least one year) = 1 mark per year completed (up to a maximum of 4). NCC Certificates will be given a weightage of : (a) NCC (C) certificate = 4, (b) NCC (B) Certificate= 2 (c) NCC (A) certificate = 1. A Candidate, who has all these certificates, will be given marks only for NCC (C) Certificate  Bharat Scout and Guide =1 (minimum eligibility is one year)  4 (Four)
 (v) Candidate possessing LMV driving license. 1.5 (one and a half)
(vi) Candidate possessing following certificates in Sports asnotified by Department of Personnel will be awarded marks as follows: a) International Level = 4 Marks b) National Level =3 Marks c) State level =2 Marks The category of sports would be as mentioned in 4 (Four)
(vii) Medal winner of International/Olympic/National level sports competition as mentioned in Reference – v. 1 (One)
